1. Fragrance oil contains volatile aromatic materials
Fragrance oils contain aromatic components designed to release scent into the surrounding air. Unlike essential oils, which are obtained from botanical materials, fragrance compositions can combine different fragrance ingredients to produce a wider range of scent profiles.

2. Oil burners increase fragrance evaporation through heat
In an oil burner or compatible electric warmer, warming the fragranced liquid increases the rate at which volatile aromatic compounds enter the air.
From a physical-chemistry perspective, increasing a liquid’s temperature increases its vapour pressure and generally increases evaporation.
Always follow the instructions supplied with the burner or warmer and avoid using fragrance oil in equipment that does not specify compatibility with fragrance oils.
3. Reed diffusers use capillary action and evaporation
A reed diffuser works differently from a heated burner. The diffuser liquid is absorbed into porous reeds and transported upward through capillary action. Once the liquid reaches the exposed reed surface, volatile components gradually evaporate into the surrounding air.

For this reason, a fragrance concentrate must have an appropriate formulation and viscosity for the reed-diffuser system being used. A concentrated fragrance oil should not be poured directly into a reed diffuser unless the product instructions confirm that use.
4. Air movement distributes the fragrance through the room
After volatile fragrance components enter the air, normal air movement distributes them through the surrounding space. Scent intensity can vary according to the amount of fragrance used, temperature, airflow, room size and scenting method.
Oil burners provide heat-assisted fragrance release, while reed diffusers provide passive and continuous fragrance release without electricity or an open flame.
5. Use fragrance according to its intended application
Fragrance ingredients are subject to application-specific safety considerations. The International Fragrance Association (IFRA) Standards can prohibit ingredients, restrict their maximum permitted concentrations or impose specifications based on the intended finished-product application.
IFRA guidance classifies fragranced oil for lamp rings, reed diffusers, potpourri and non-cartridge liquid air-freshener refills under Category 10A.
Users should therefore follow the product label, equipment instructions and applicable formulation guidance rather than assuming that the same concentration is appropriate for every scenting method.
